Little Britain Barbara Cartland inspired photoshoot ; Jane Air reads from her dating diary, The Cyber Mermaid

Inspired by the Little Britain imitation of Barbara Cartland. I had to make do with a fallen tree trunk for a chaise lounge. I am wearing a vintage 1970's maxi dress. The Cyber Mermaid is a modern dating diary.

Shaggy ink cap mushroom bookmark from Jane Air

Drawn on the 9th and 10th October 2012. Not too sure of its botanical accuracy but I love the 'meltingness' of this mushroom which I came across this summer. Also, am about to start work on a political party conference cartoon which shares the theme of 'melting'...more on this to follow. Click on pic to enlarge.

Death of the Euro and 'living off the meat off me bones' cartoon ; Austerity ; Eurozone crisis

For now, the black holes of debt in the eurozone are being patched up so this cartoon is more of a satire on the media's portrayal of the eurozone crisis. Posted 4th July 2012, amidst the Barclays bank scandal.

Euro meltdown cartoon ; 'A pile of defaults' ; Grinning cheshire fat cat bonus pay

Tim Burton inspired style of cartoon. Click on pic for the full picture to be displayed. Posted on the day of the Greek elections. The candle has almost melted away, its last embers blowing the sign of the euro in smoke rings. The cobwebs at the corners of the desk represent the webs of debt in the eurozone. The cyber mermaid is sitting amongst a pile of default letters. The grinning cheshire cat is bloated and inflated - like a floating balloon - representing not only fat cat executive bonus pay but also, fat cat tax evasion. In the book, 'Alice in Wonderland', the cheshire cat disappears at will which begs the question, where HAS all the money gone ?

Press Release ; A Steampunk Media Satire ; The Cyber Mermaid lets off steam...

To quote David Cameron on 'The Andrew Marr Show' today 29 April, 'we live in a 24 hour media news world'. That was the original theory behind this cartoon. Cartoon posted at a time when the 'media' itself is in the spotlight. My own notes for this cartoon will be at http://cartoonnotes.blogspot.com

The Cyber Mermaid as Pierrot, the sad clown...( and the fool ! )

The Cyber Mermaid is sad thinking about all the precious and sentimental things she sold in order to pay the interest on her bank credit cards ( before the default ). Her hair is lank and lack lustre as she is still without running hot water ( 2 cartoon blogs ago ).
This cartoon also has in mind the people of Greece, many of whom have had to sell their family gold jewellery in order to survive in a financial crisis that is not of their doing.

Nodding Bluebells

My first attempt at bluebells. 'A Media Satire' cartoon for The Cyber Mermaid cartoon blog has been put on hold for now. The cartoon is to be entitled 'Press Release'.

Debt and Default cartoon ; The Cyber Mermaid is downgraded...

The Cyber Mermaid is grinning with relief that finally the mounting interest on her bank credit cards has finally come to a halt due to the default. The cheshire cat is grinning insanely at the financial madness of economies being built on foundations of debt. The order of countries that are likely to default on their debt ( on the debt clock ) is conjecture.

Lincolnshire Windfarms poem in the February issue of Lincolnshire Pride magazine

1 Feb 2012. I haven't as yet seen it for myself as there are no copies of Lincolnshire Pride magazine in my local newsagents but I have been told that my poem is in there. I am still putting my thoughts together on the issue of the rapid expansion of windfarms all over the landscape of Lincolnshire. They get a mention in many of my landscape poems as they are now a feature of the landscape whether we like it or not.

An epoch of giant clocks
expand across the
sea and land

Swallowing nature
in their impatient spin
and rapacious span

A meadow of metal petals
are flowers in the wind
petal propellers spinned

A fleet of alien aircraft
have landed in a field of wheat

The noses of a squadron
of spitfires, all routed
to the ground have
nowhere to go,
their egg-shaped engines
sit in feathery clouds
high up in the sky
rolls of hay below

What do they lay ?
When do they sow ?

I tread lightly
as I return to track
from my windy trail
inside a windfarm gale

While a swarm
of swallows
swiftly swoop and sweep
nearby
as if reclaiming
back the sky

The Christmas Crunch Cartoon ; The Ghost of Economic Future ; Debt cartoon

The Ghost of Economic Future. Cartoon inspired by the premonition visitations in 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens. The second cartoon has had an 'ink stamp' effect put on it which I quite like - not too sure where the stars have come but the night sky background works for this cartoon. The cyber mermaid has morphed into a tree decoration.
